The Future Islands w/ Lower Dens, Ponies & Flowers

When: Fri., May 7 2010

The funky little art space and indie music venue Outer Space hosts a cool concert this Friday when Baltimore’s Future Islands and their hometown buds Lower Dens share the stage with local indie/punk act Ponies & Flowers. Comprised of singer/guitarist Samuel Herring, bassist William Cashion, and synth player/drummer J. Gerrit Welmer, Future Islands is associated with what insiders refer to as the Wham City collective. Their latest Thrill Jockey release, In Evening Air, is a joyful and noisy affair. Rolling Stone describes the new material as, “adding punishing heft to simple pop melodies, making blippy electropop sound oddly confrontational.” The folk/rock-styled Lower Dens is songwriter Jana Hunter’s latest band. Local act Ponies & Flowers is a punky combo that hasn’t played on stage in two years (friends anticipate a terrific reunion set). Music starts at 9 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
