The Holy Land Experience

When: Sat., June 2, 7:30 p.m. and Fri., June 8, 9:30 p.m. 2012

Travelin' fool. Monologist Martin Dockery is quickly becoming a Fringe regular, and he gives us something fresh every year. In 2010, it was Wanderlust, an account of his five-month trek through Africa. In 2011, it was The Bike Trip, loosely based around the discovery of LSD and a subsequent trippy bike ride. And now in 2012, he brings us Holy Land Experience, which takes us from a religious theme park in Orlando, where an actor playing Jesus is crucified every day, all the way to Bethlehem.

Profane meets profound. Dockery will be the first to admit that he's not a religious guy, but he discovered quite a lot about himself over the course of his faithless pilgrimage to the land of the faithful.

A man, a mic, and a sweaty T-shirt. Dockery keeps things simple on stage, with nothing but a stool and a water bottle to keep him company. Yet he manages to keep the audience enthralled throughout the course of his shows, painting a vivid image of his adventures with a larger-than-life delivery. That's why our critics have loved his past shows, and why we expect to like this one as well.
