Formerly known as Special Ed and the Shortbus, crackin’ string band The Hot Seats have stayed busy this year touring the country in support of their new album Retreat to Camp Candy Temptation Island. Based in Richmond, Va., Aaron “Admiral Admirable” Lewis (fiddle, vocals, bass, mandolin, banjo), Ben “Heironymous Volcano” Belcher (three-finger banjo, bass, vocals, fiddle), “Special” Ed “Two Flush, Short Pants, Two Dews” Brogan (guitar, vocals), Josh “PF” Bearman (mandolin, banjo), and Jake “Scrotus” Sellers (percussion, bass) head back into the Lowcountry this weekend for a Sunday show at The Pour House at 10 p.m. Playing a pretty hectic and joyful mix of country, bluegrass, and old-time music, the Seats have received critical praise both for their musical chops and healthy sense of humor. “The name connotes the frenetic frenzy this band can whip up,” the Virginians announce in their press kit. Indeed.
