The Incredible Sandwich

When: Wed., July 14 2010

The young men from The Incredible Sandwich — a Southern-style progressive rock band from Athens, Ga. — cruise into town on Wednesday for a two-set gig at the Pour House. The band formed in the fall of 2007 and quickly gained popularity throughout the music-heavy town. The Sandwich includes guitarist/lead vocalist Matt McKinney, bassist Kevin Juneau, keyboardist/vocalist Damian Kapcala, and drummer/vocalist Rackley Davis. They produce a groove-heavy, slightly psychedelic rock sound that creates a free-spirited atmosphere comparable to an Umphrey’s McGee or Panic show. They’re independent and stay true to their Southern roots. The live shows can be laid-back at times, but quite dynamic as well. The band’s more melodic song craft can be laden with heartfelt lyrics. The Incredible Sandwich has been touring around the Southeast quite a bit this summer; they hit the Wakarusa Music Festival with an outstanding set. The readers of their hometown weekly, Flagpole, voted them the Best Jam Band in Athens during last month’s Athens Music Awards. The boys will release their first full-length album — recorded and produced by John Keane in his Athens studio — this fall on Mule Train Records. —Lindsay Paris
