The Lost

When: June 26-July 31, 6-8 p.m. 2009

See the Lowcountry through a whole new lens this month at the Center for Photography. Beaufort-based photographer Gary Geboy presents a collection of photographs called The Lost, featuring 30 year’s worth of haunting images and hidden, forgotten subjects from around the area — people and places lost to time. According to the Center for Photography’s website, “the images are understood not by their surroundings or context but by the memories that they suggest.” Sounds pretty serious, right? Luckily the images themselves aren’t too difficult to appreciate. Geboy hand mixes, coats, exposes, and develops each image in his portfolio, using a labor intensive and environmentally-friendly platinum printing process. Geboy will be at the opening reception on Friday from 6-8 p.m., but you can check out the photos on weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through July 31. —Erica Jackson
