Centered in the middle of the current Park Circle hustle-bustle — along the main rag along East Montague Avenue — The Mill emerged three years as one of the coolest watering holes and live music venues in the neighborhood. A nonchalant bar and grill with a dedicated clientele, the Mill celebrated its third anniversary on Sat. July 31 with an all-night Third Anniversary Bash of twangy live rockabilly, alt-country, garage-rock, and indie-pop.
Third Anniversary Bash featured live music on the main stage from Redbirds, The Defilers, Matt Vogt, Quasiphonics, Go For Launch, Jordan Igoe, and other local acts. The Barbecue Joint (the club's neighbor up the block at 1083-A E. Montague St.) sold food, and both establishments are donating part of their proceeds to Dine Out for the Gulf Coast.
Decades ago, a blue-collar tavern called The Mill & Social Club served Westvaco employees and locals in this spot. The blue-collar vibes remain, although with a dash of young hipster swagger.
