Last Wednesday night, the City Paper took over the Aquarium for the annual Best of Charleston party, inviting all of the winners, a bunch of readers who voted online, and as many friends and general merrymakers as we could find. The party seemed over before it had begun as hundreds of people filed into the greatest party venue in town. Title sponsor of the event --Lexus -- had a sweet ride parked outside and vendors filled the inside with trays of liquor and tables of food. A huge ice sculpture slowly melted the night away as some patient shuckers from Pearlz opened oysters for the crowds and Wasabi's sushi chefs provided freshly rolled creations. Other vendors included Cru Catering (Best Caterer), Starbucks (Best Coffeehouse), Nirlep (Best Indian Restaurant), Melvin's (Best Barbecue), Saffron (Best Bakery), Cold Stone Creamery (Best Ice Cream), Wild Wing (Best Wings), Mustard Seed (Best James Island/Mt. Pleasant/and Rest. for Vegetarians), Kaminksy's (Best Desserts), and Chai's (Best Tapas). DJ Moo Moo got the crowd moving and local artist Julio Cotto arrived with some hot girls he had painted with the City Paper logo. After an initial hubbub, we were able to let the girls strip down to their pasties and dance. If you missed it, be sure to vote online next year for your chance to win tickets.
