The Scene | By matt collum
Spoleto officially began last Friday in front of City Hall and I dared attend some of the events. Thursday night a friend and I saw The Gate Theatre’s dress rehearsal of The Constant Wife and laughed throughout the performance because it was so cleverly funny. On Friday, I went to Bogard Street Gallery and rubbed elbows with some of the most talented artists in Charleston. After that, I headed to Bedon’s Alley for one of the best low-key parties of Spoleto. A quick midnight tour of the Robert Lange Studios really sent my Memorial Day weekend into high gear. On Saturday, I got my weekend music fix behind the Custom House at the Reggae Block Party and later at the East Bay Crab Shack listening to an old favorite, Towin’ Cinderella. Luckily, I have some friends who inherited a boat and we hit the water on Sunday. My summer kick-off weekend couldn’t have gotten any better unless, of course, it had been longer.
