Tim McGraw w/ Lady Antebellum, Love & Theft

When: Thu., May 13 2010

Tim McGraw rolls into the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday for the latest stop on his Southern Voice tour, named for the singer’s 12th album. Attendees can expect the usual mix of classic McGraw hits and new tunes from the record, the most successful of which has been the title track. The album also features some darker tunes from the 43-year-old McGraw, although he generally doesn’t write his own lyrics. Speculation abounds that this album and tour will be McGraw’s last with his current label after their public disagreement over the release of his greatest hits album in 2008, which delayed the already completed Southern Voice. McGraw also boasts strong opening acts in Lady Antebellum, who are enjoying massive amounts of success following the release of their sophomore album Need You Now, and up-and-comers Love & Theft, who released their debut World Wide Open last August. McGraw recently announced that the tour will conclude with three dates in Australia, which isn’t a huge surprise, considering it’s sponsored by Outback Steakhouse. He can find a way to work the words “blooming onion” into a song between now and then. Groupies eager for more inside info can check out the “On the Road” blog on McGraw’s website, updated regularly by band members, featuring backstage chatter and a gallery of obsessively snapped photos of McGraw’s on-stage antics and performances. —Cameron Jones
