Toots & the Maytals

When: Fri., July 24, 7 p.m. 2009

The Rockin’ on the Point concert series is over, but you can still catch one more show at the great Charleston Harbor Resort venue before the summer’s over. Friday’s show not only features the legendary reggae group Toots and the Maytals, it also benefits a great cause. We just love it when things work out like that. Carolina Studios is a not-for-profit organization which provides a safe after-school environment in which students can release their creative energy and utilize musical technology. All proceeds from the concert benefit Carolina Studios and the Boys and Girls Club of the Trident Area. And if you’re unfamiliar with Toots and the Maytals (where have you been for the past 40 years?), they’re credited with bringing reggae to mainstream America, thanks in part to their 1968 song “Do the Reggay.” The Grammy award-winning Jamaican band promises a good show, rain or shine, mon. —Moira Phillips
