Local songwriter Michael Trent (of The Films, Shovels & Rope) recently released his second full-length solo album on the cooperative Shrimp Records imprint.

The 11-song collection The Winner is a twangy mix of melodic country, Americana, and pop-rock, with additional vocals from wife and bandmate Cary Ann Hearst. The Winner is available at iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.

Shrimp is new record label on the scene, comprised of group of Charleston musicians. Trent helps run the label with and five of his colleagues — Hearst, Owen Beverly (of Tent Revival, The InLaws), Joel Hamilton (of The Working Title, The InLaws), Sadler Vaden (of Leslie), and Bill Carson (the New Music Collective, The Opposite of a Train, Lindsay Holler's Western Polaroids, and several other projects.

See for more, and look for an album review in the Music+Clubs section next week.
