Trident United Way's Battle of the Bands

When: Thu., Aug. 26 2010

Trident United Way’s Battle of the Bands is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the work of Trident United Way and its nonprofit partners within the tri-county area. The organization relies on volunteers and donors to accomplish its goals. The fifth annual Battle of the Bands will showcase some underground talent from the area. “The Trident United Way puts a little spin on it when they host this,” says co-organizer Nick Tompkins. “Each band member was required to complete a volunteer project to learn, firsthand, what the Trident United Way and helping nonprofits is all about. Ultimately, they become great ambassadors for us.” Each act has chosen a partner organization for a volunteer program or tour of their facility. This year, the Rock Your Socks Off campaign encourages folks to bring new socks for those in need at Crisis Ministries. Each sock donation will be rewarded with a ticket for a free pint of craft beer. Prizes will be awarded for best original material as well as best overall band. Participants include Big Bang Theory, Hwy. 17 Band, Henry’s Attic, TranceFusion, Dirtweed, Steel Petals, Headrush, Ascending Heights, Deadontime, Cindi and the Sound Catz, Hundred Hands Down, Fatter Then Albert, NOTA, On the Hunt. Music starts at 6 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
