Thanksgiving is all about appreciating what one has in life, being grateful, and helping those less fortunate. We get it. But then there’s Thanksgiving’s Eve, which celebrates debauchery. Why not combine the two? That’s exactly what the inaugural Turkeypalooza is doing. Bring 10 non-perishable food items to any of the seven participating bars in Avondale — Triangle, the Roost, Mellow Mushroom, Gene’s Haufbrau, Oak Barrel Tavern, Pearlz, and Voodoo — and get entered in the Turkey Shoot, which is like the Big Buck Hunter video game but with turkeys instead of bucks explains event organizer Eric Partin. The winner of the Turkey Shoot receives a Thanksgiving meal for eight from Ted’s Butcherblock, and the donations go to the Lowcountry Food Bank — that’s the good deed part of this deal. Then stick around Avondale to participate in the revelry. Stop by as many of the seven bars as you can, and you’ll get entered in a raffle to win a $50 gift certificate to each of those locations — that’s $350 worth of delicious. Drink on, because let’s face it, a Thanksgiving feast is the best hangover cure.
