Don't be a jerk. Uprights Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York is where funny people go to get their start, make a mark, and find an audience. It's where Aziz Ansari performed when he was living and working in the Big Apple. It's where Bobby Moynihan did plenty of time before getting tapped for the big leagues and becoming a cast member at SNL. It's where smart New Yorkers go for alternative comedy because, as they say, mainstream comedy is for jerks.
On the road to the beach. This is a plum gig for UCB players, who get to come to Charleston, hang out at the beach, and perform to appreciative Southern audiences. So they're probably funnier than usual.
What the hell is it anyway? Improv comedy. They make shit up. On the spot. The players will ask for some kind of suggestion from the audience before embarking on an hour-long improvisational performance that will most likely make you laugh. Hard.
