Doctor’s appointments are a nuisance — another thing to check off of our to-do lists. We often forget that many sick and injured people in other countries don’t even have the option to receive proper medical attention. Ashley Meyers, a physician’s assistant who has done a handful of medical missions in the past, hopes to raise money to go on another. “In Uganda, I was able to save a 12-year-old boy named Moses with only $400 after diagnosing him with what I thought to be a type of kidney tumor. That money will take care of him for the remainder of his life,” says Meyers. This time, Meyers is going to Vietnam with her team to provide medical attention to people who saw some of the heaviest combat of the Vietnam War. Danielle Howle, Chris Boone, Graham Whorley, and Speakerbox will be the musical entertainment for this fundraising evening, while Cory’s Grilled Cheese Food Truck will have food available for purchase. You’ll have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets, and winners will receive over 30 different prizes, including house-cleaning services, boxing classes, facials, gift cards to several stores and restaurants, and much more. There will also be a small silent auction with a beach bike cruiser, a two-night stay at the Biltmore in Asheville, and a laser teeth whitening service up for bid. Meyers will be teaming up with VWAM (Vietnam Vets with a Mission) on this upcoming trip. To learn more about their mission and goals, visit vetswithamission.org.
