Hang loose, friends. It’s time for the annual Wahine Classic at the Washout, where surfer girls of all ages are invited to compete in the longest running women’s surf contest in South Carolina. Founded by Katie Coryell and Kelly Kane Wood in 2001, the competition celebrates the ever-growing population of female surfers in the Lowcountry. Board categories include short and long boards, as well as Liquid Shredder Fun One, body board, and stand-up paddle divisions. Proceeds from the competition benefit Surfers Healing, a nonprofit that aims to enrich the lives of children with autism by taking them surfing.
