We Pictured You Reading This

When: March 19-May 1 2010

When Paper Monument, a semi-annual print journal of contemporary art based in Brooklyn, released its first issue, they wrote in a letter from the editors that, “We pictured you reading this.” The hopeful statement showed their desire to showcase original, commissioned works and focus on reader-oriented writing. They decided to use the phrase as the title of their upcoming exhibit at Redux Contemporary Art Center. Redux’s executive director, Karen Ann Meyers, invited the editors, Dushko Petrovich and Roger White, to host the event in Charleston. The exhibit was curated by James Bae, a contributor to Paper Monument. It will include work from artists featured in the magazine to the editors themselves. The pieces range from works on paper to video projections to paintings. The three men will be at the opening reception and will lead a discussion and tour of the gallery at 5:30 p.m. “For the show, we wanted to bring the best work that we can and the best group of artists that we can down to Charleston,” Petrovich says. —Susan Cohen
