What’s a local food hub and why should I care? When was the last time you thought about where your food came from and what impact it had on your environment, health, and community? The majority of the food consumed in the U.S. now comes from a factory, not a field. This shift and globalization of the food system has had multiple negative effects including obesity, rural poverty, and increased fossil fuel use in agriculture. Local food hubs are starting around the country in order to revitalize local food systems and keep small to mid size family farmers farming.
