Based in the bustling music scene in Austin, Texas, rookie indie/Americana band Wheeler Brothers are on the road this summer behind an impressive debut album. The band released Portraits last month on Bismeaux Records, distributed by SonyRed. The Austin-American Statesman recently wrote, “Portraits stakes out ground somewhere in the vast space between Band of Horses and the Avett Brothers.” We’ll throw a bit of My Morning Jacket and Dream Syndicate in there as well. Brothers Nolan, Tyler, and Patrick Wheeler initially formed the band in Louisiana a few years ago. After a recent move to the Lone Star State, they polished their original material and started leaning toward the classic guitar-pop side of the contemporary alt-country movement. The current lineup included lap steel/guitar player A.J. Molyneaux and singer/guitarist Danny Matthews.
