David Gravelin of Wishbone Heritage in Ridgeville has a motto — “Know your farmer, know your food” — and he operates the farm according to this standard. Gravelin refuses to treat his agriculture with hormones, medications, antibiotics, or pesticides. This protein-specializing farm raises chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit and pork. Chicken, duck, and goose eggs are also available for purchase. Always striving to be a diverse farm, Gravelin keeps 20 beehives on the farm for honey and beeswax candles, and he even sells pet food — including dog treats and bones. Wishbone Heritage sets up shop at the Summerville, Mt. Pleasant, and Johns Island farmers markets. Gravelin encourages visits to the farm for a grocery stop — just make sure to call ahead and give fair notice. Or you can order your items online for pick-up at various locations around town. If you’re looking to get your hands dirty, check their Facebook page for updates on volunteer days (usually every other Sunday) and other events.
