It's official, the red ribbon is cut and World Oriental Kitchen is open for business. The grand opening of W.O.K. was held yesterday at the King Street restaurant and featured Mayor Joe Riley as the ribbon-cutting speaker. Mayor Riley welcomed W.O.K. to Charleston, applauded President Nick Bergelt's hard work, and emphasized the importance of bringing green businesses like W.O.K. to the community.
Following the ceremony, Bergelt led Mayor Riley around the restaurant highlighting its green features like countertops made from recycled detergent bottles, recycled steel scrap metal, and seat cushions made from soybeans.
Also present were Charleston Chamber Representative Jeff Ritchey, LEED-certified architect Wes Lyles, Bergelt's proud mom and family, and of course, anxious diners. By the time 5 p.m. rolled around, the back dining room was already buzzing with people enjoying the noodle, rice, chicken, shrimp, and veggie combinations.
Now that the doors are open, you can enjoy W.O.K. everyday of the week, and even late night. W.O.K. plans to stay open 'til midnight Sun.-Wed. and 'til 3 a.m. Thurs.-Sat. Check it out and let us know what you think of it. Click here and post your review.
