The Weekend Round-up

Don’t let the heat get you down. Or the rain. Or the flooding. This weekend is offering plenty of events to get you out and about and havin’ fun.

Tonight’s Palette & Palate Stroll is sold out. If you planned ahead, we’ll be stuffing our faces with you in the galleries downtown. If you didn’t get tickets, plan to attend the next (free) art walk on Aug. 7.

The RiverDogs continue their homestand through the weekend, with Fireworks tonight, a recycling bag giveaway Saturday, and free parking and free food for kids Sunday. Sunday’s game will conclude with a concert from Richie McDonald, the former frontman of Lonestar. If you’re more into full-contact sports, don’t miss the wrestling events this weekend. Head to the Coliseum Saturday for the WWE Summer Smackdown, or check out Old-School Championship Wrestling at Weekender’s Pub in Goose Creek on Sunday.

What’s better than a concert? One in a really cool setting. Head to Eye Level Art’s new Spring Street gallery to check out Morimoto tonight, or go to the Music Farm for the Lowcountry Highrollers’ fund-raiser featuring music from Unkown Hinson and Steel Petals. There will also be roller derby musical chairs, a silent auction, derby girl auction (where you can bid for a date with your favorite girl), and a raffle. If you’ve got a boat, paddle on out to Morris Island for Aquapalooza, featuring music from Lance Starr and the Reggae Rockers, The East Coast Party Band and Friends of Uncle Mingo and the Blue Dogs. Holy Cow Yoga's anniversary party includes music from The Amazing Mittens, then on Saturday night, the Flip Flop Ball on Goldbug Island will have music from Two 3 Ways and Kim Lhuillier & Tom Dittrich, along with an open bar and barbecue.

Some randoms: Prop Master Deconstruction party at the Gibbes (take home your own piece of the exhibit!), Bark for Bubbles dog-wash fund-raiser at the West Ashley Chick-fil-A (benefits Noble Ones Bully Breed Rescue), stand-up with Kenny Z at Theatre 99, and a “living history” event out at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island.

Next week, be ready for some major arts events and the U.S. Women’s Soccer team to play at Blackbaud Wednesday!
