Wonderland Closing

The sad news just keeps coming. Upper King children’s boutique Wonderland has announced that they’re closing. Coming on the heels of a spate of closings from neighboring locally-owned boutiques, the announcement is just another sign of the changing face of the Design District. “Things can change really quickly when you own a retail business and that’s just what happened with us,” says co-owner Michelle Nemeth. “Some things we were pursuing did not pan out so we had to choose the one true thing we didn’t want to do. With the grim retail outlook predicted for the next year and half combined with the fact that we were undercapitalized from the start it just created this perfect storm of sorts. Unfortunately, we will not be the last casualty of great, unique, local stores being forced to close the doors in these tough economic times.”
