A few weeks ago, when everything at Mary Norton was on sale for up to 90 percent, we could smell trouble, but her rep wouldn’t confirm anything. Now the empty storefront says plenty, as does the recent Post and Courier report which says that Mary Norton Inc. filed for liquidation last week. “Court filings show that the company owes more than $5 million, largely to the investment fund that bought a majority stake in her business in 2006,” the article states. Sad news for the lovely local designer, and King Street as a whole.
Susan Michelle Boutique in Mt. Pleasant’s Belle Hall Shopping Center is also closing up shop after seven years. They’re holding an “Everything Must Go” sale July 23-26, featuring shoes, apparel, and jewelry up to 90 percent off. Get there between 9 a.m. and noon on the 23rd for an extra 5 percent off, then get another 5 off if you pay in cash.
Speaking of Belle Hall, the shopping center is hosting a sidewalk sale July 23-26. They’ve got over 60 shops, salons, and restaurants — like II Brunettes, Pink Crocodile Two, Dog & Duck, and Handpicked — so you’re sure to find something you’ll love.
Just a reminder, other stores having major sales right now are Plum Elements and Elizabeth Stuart Design.
Stay posted for a the Mock Couture trunk show at Suite Sole Aug. 1, along with a trunk show at Verbena Salon Aug. 6.
Butterfly Women’s Consignment Boutique recently opened a second location at 428 King — Yay for budget shopping downtown! And Teal is settling into their second location in the Mt. Pleasant Towne Center.
