Lacoste ends Family Circle Cup sponsorship

Local company takes over from Lacoste

Lacoste has been the sponsor of the Family Circle Cup tournament since 2006, but this year Vapor Apparel in North Charleston is stepping into the position.

“Lacoste didn’t continue the sponsorship into 2010, so we began looking for a new apparel partner,” says Family Circle Cup Communications Manager Michael Saia. “We found one close to home.”

Vapor Apparel, in its sixth year of business, is known not only for its performance apparel, customized printing, and fabric imprintables, but also for its commitment to being eco-friendly.

“We wanted to keep the business here in the Charleston area,” says Bob Maran, general manager of the Family Circle Cup. “There are not many performance apparel brands that can offer Vapor’s level of customization or their commitment to the environment. The fact they were in our back yard was also a surprise.”

Because Lacoste is no longer sponsoring the Family Circle Cup, there will not be a Lacoste fashion show this year.

There will also be some changes in the look of Family Circle Cup staff and volunteers.

“Each group of tournament staffers will have its own unique look,” co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer at Vapor Apparel Christopher Bernat said. “We created custom colors and decorating for each apparel segment, from event volunteers to staffers.”

The Family Circle Cup will be April 10-18 at the Family Circle Tennis Center, so head out to watch some amazing tennis matches, and don’t forget to check out the staffers' new threads. — Caitlyn Chimento
