I'On is about to get a little more edgy with a new contemporary boutique opening June 14. Located at 152-B Civitas St., Smolder features contemporary clothing from local and national designers. They carry brands like Dolce Vita, Simon Chang, Jeffrey Campbell, Denimocracy, and local line Troubadour by Lindsey Carter.

"I thought there was a big need for it," says owner and buyer Robin Gossett. "I love shopping. I saw a hole in the market, and I took a risk and opened up the boutique.

"The clothes are for women who want to walk in the door and be noticed," Gossett adds. "They are unique." Gossett, a former Marine, has owned other types of businesses, including stables, but until now, fashion had just been a passion of hers.

Assistant buyer and manager Liz Spillars, who is originally from the mountains of North Carolina, formerly worked in Manhattan at Macys buying office and then at Betsey Johnson.

In the future, Gossett and Spillars hope to use the space to host art shows featuring local artists and musicians. Smolder is open Mon.-Sat. from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, call (843) 654-9311.
