If you haven’t sniffed around Upper King Street lately, Thursday would be a good time to do it. The Upper King Design Walk is scheduled for Oct. 20 from 5-8 p.m., and it’s always a good way to see what local retailers are up to ... and to schmooze. According to the King Street Marketing Group, you can expect receptions and specials from many area restaurants and shops.

Some highlights: La Fourchette will host a happy hour reception featuring artist Sybil Fix, SieMatic will hold a book signing for kitchen designer Mick de Giulio, and Seeking Indigo will celebrate their second birthday with a party. In addition, Michael Mitchell Gallery is featuring abstract artist Susan Colwell, Osteria la Bottiglia will have handbags and home designs by Bottega Brandina designer Marco Morosini, and Fish’s Evan Powell will be pouring special Designer Negronis.

On the far reaches of the street, Barsa hosts its first Happy Hour Art Tent Event from 4-8 p.m. with drink specials, art, jewelry, and more. See upperkingdesigndistrict.com for more.

While you’re on King Street, make a stop at the Charleston Music Hall to celebrate the unveiling of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition’s
2012 poster by featured painter Dustin Van Wechel.

The event will feature a musical performance from Casey Thompson and Robbi Kenney along with a demonstration from Jim Elliott and Stephen Schabel of the Center for Birds of Prey. The show starts at 8 p.m. (conveniently right when the Design Walk wraps up), and tickets cost $25. Call 888-71-TICKETS to buy, or visit sewe.com for more.
