For years, Rogue Wave Surf Shop on Spring Street has been a local favorite for surf, skate, and beach apparel and accessories. Owner Rhett Boyd recently announced the store will officially be closing at the end of March, but he assured us that does not mean the Rogue Wave Surf brand is going away.
“We are shifting gears and expanding by going back to our roots,” says Boyd. His new project is Rogue Wave Surf + Supply, where the shop's signature pieces, surfboards, and a curated selection of lifestyle items will always be available for purchase through the website and pop-up shops in Charleston. Boyd says he wants to focus on producing more of his private label goods and selling less of other people's products. By focusing on the Rogue Wave label, Boyd hopes to sell his products in stores across the country.
The first local store to feature Rogue Wave products will be Rachel Gordon’s shop, One Love Design, located at 478 King St, beginning March 1. “This way Rogue Wave goods will be more accessible to the public, and reach a wider audience,” Boyd says. In honor of the Rogue Wave Shop closing, there will be an in-store sale until March 31, where most goods will be 50 percent off.
“The relationships and friendships that have fostered through the store are my greatest joy. I get choked up when I think about all the great people I have gotten to know in Charleston,” says Boyd. “I give deepest thanks to everyone who has been with us from the start. The people are why we have done what we have done for all these years.”
