South Africa-based textile brand, Mungo, will open its first retail store in Charleston this week on Fri. April 26. The store is located at 121 Spring St. (the former location of The Bearded Cafe). Stop by Mungo 4-7 p.m. to swill some wine and check out the wares for sale.

This is Mungo's first store in the United States and two of its newest items, beach towels, were inspired by Folly Beach.

"The synchronicity of us finding ourselves on Folly Beach, a seaside city just south of Charleston, South Carolina, where we are opening our first USA retail store next month was confirmation that this was destined to be the name of our new towel," the company said in an announcement this week.

The Folly ($80) comes in two colors, "fiddler crab" and "blue crab," a nod to both the indigenous species of the East Coast and the colors of Folly Beach.

Mungo describes its mission as a transparency-focused sustainable textile company: "At Mungo we defy the status quo and endeavor to help shape and uphold the standards of sustainable production in a non industrial environment. We challenge the idea that value is a product of price."
